二、课程简介

Introduction

The Case Study Module is required for all English majors. The purpose of this course is to help the students to develop objective thinking toward business situation. This module is also designed to encompass all aspect of a business environment. Student will be required to solve problems related to the case study and the business topic associated with the case study.

 

三、课程性质与教学目的

The course objectives are as follows:

­       To develop awareness about Foreign companies and their management way.

­       To introduce business topics such as Human Resources, Accounting, Public Relation, Management, Marketing, etc… using case study

­       To develop problem solving skills and develop team work in problem solving

­       To develop argumentation skills and objective thinking

­       To enhance the English fluency of the students and develop confidence in speaking English

.

四、教学内容及要求

Course content:

1. Introduction Of the course

2. Amway:

This case study helps students understand strategies used in Direct Sales and how to benefits from a good social image.

3. Michelin:

This case study helps students understand the difference between stakeholders and shareholders and how companies must respect their values.

4. Nestle:

This case study helps students understand how companies research, develop and launch new products.

5. McDonalds:

This case study helps students understand essential elements of marketing including marketing objectives, the 4Ps and market research.

6. Arcadia UK

This case study helps students understand recruitment, selection, training and development.

7. Exam Preparation and Presentation:

Students will review in class the different business topics of the semester. They also are going to prepare a case study about a Chinese company. Guidance and help will provided in class for the final presentation using PowerPoint

8. Examination process:

The last course section will be dedicated to a group project carry out by students and monitored by the teacher. The students will have to undertake a business case study about a Chinese company and prepare a professional presentation followed by a business report.

Students will have the possibility to use multimedia or any other materials that could support their topic and enhance the comprehension of an attendance. The report will be a complement of the oral presentation. It will be presented as a case study and will have a word limits.

 

Purpose and task of the course:

­                   Form and develop understanding of a case study;

­                   Familiarization with the method to analyze a situation or a company;

­                   Familiarization with the method reporting the information in writing or in speaking;

­                   Familiar with 5 criteria for a successful oral presentation;

Organize an oral presentation and communicate orally and in English the information about a company or a situation related to business activities. 

 

Teaching methods:

This course content is based on the following course sections:

­       Reading and understanding of the case study

­       Answering question related to the case study

­       Discuss and critic the presented case study

­       Introduce Business topics related to the case study

­       Pose a problem

­       Solve a practical problem

六、推荐教材和教学参考资源

Teaching Material recommended:

­       Business related book: it must contain a general and complete overview of business. It is not necessary to select an expensive and complex book, because the teacher will do most of the comprehension work in class.

­       Advertisement and corporate documents: available on Internet or upon request to any company

­       Printed Case study: one or two with a maximum of two page each. They can be printed and copy for the students.
